This book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and kept me glued until the end. Taylor Jenkins Reid mixed together a heady cocktail of ambition, success, love, loss and heartbreak giving the reader a bird’s eye view of the fictional life of an a-list actress who was also a great beauty.
It had all the old Hollywood appeal of the 1950’s overlaid with the limitations society placed on sexuality and women in general. Set in this backdrop was Eleanor, a strong, hungry, and ambitious woman who was willing to risk all for fame and fortune. She was a complex woman who created her own rules, turned friendships into family and was unapologetic of the choices she made in her life. Most importantly, it’s a story of love and acceptance.
I highly recommend this engaging read. It was fun to read about the glamour, the gowns and the Hollywood lifestyle.
